When I first quit drinking I was speaking with a therapist about how to stay sober in difficult situations. I was about to fly to Peru for a trek and I was having all sorts of doubts even – though I was 5 months sober and going strong. Normally I would drink on a flight because I (stupidly) thought it would help my nerves – it actually perpetuated my anxiety! I was going to be spending the next two weeks with a large group of strangers and alcohol would normally be involved in socialising and trying to show off my obnoxious drunk personality.
Her advice? To have a reminder on me at all times. A token that that would inspire me to remember why I was doing this in the first place.
Free Phone Wallpaper Download
What do you look at more often than anything else? That’s right. Your phone. So, I decided to create a bunch of sobriety phone wallpapers you can download for free & enjoy (or just print screen like a normal person). Just cause. Take a look and pick whichever sobriety wallpaper you love the most. Set it as your phone wallpaper & be reminded of your sobriety multiple times a day.
Applying Meaning
Most of us don’t just give up alcohol for no reason. So, pick the wallpaper that holds the most meaning to you. How do you want to feel when you read it? Bad*ss about your choice? Fun? Do you want to be reminded of the pro’s and pros? Or get some help from one of my personal favourite quotes “one day at a time”. Whatever your wallpaper choice, make it meaningful to you.
Stay Sober Wallpaper
Fin
There you have it, if you couldn’t find one to suit you then hopefully you’ve been inspired to create your own or to even find another token reminder. Wallpaper is a great choice given how often we look at our phones on a day to day basis. But it really could be anything. I actually purchased myself a cute birth month bracelet I’ve had on my wrist for over a year. Whenever I find myself in a crazy social situation where the drinks are starting to flow, it’s my calm, consistent reminder of why I made this decision for myself.
